Tie Guys – How to Tie a Tie in Six Simple Steps Attention: Before you begin, flip your collar up. Step 1. Position the tie around your neck so that the wide end is on your right and the narrow end is on your left. Step 2. Adjust the tie so that the narrow end is even with your belly button. Step 3. Wrap the wide end over top of the narrow end one and a half times, so that the wide end is on your left side. Step 4. Grasp the wide end with your right hand; bring the wide end through the gap between your neck and the knot. Step 5. Hold the front of the knot loose with your index finger; pass the wide end down through the loop created in step 3. Step 6. Remove your finger and tighten the knot by holding on to the narrow end and sliding the knot up. Warning: Excessive tightening of the knot may lead to suffocation.
